Eleanor F. Brown

Eleanor Frances Brown was an American author. Born in Washington in 1908. She worked as a librarian and wrote a number of books on librarianship. She was also interested in horses  and wrote a few  pony-themed children's novels, all of which are graced by the illustrations of Pers Crowell. Unfortunately most of the books are hard to find and may be expensive.


Peter Series:

1) A HORSE FOR PETER

Reprinted in hardback by original publisher.
SUMMARY: Peter longs for a horse of his own. When an accident puts him in a wheelchair he meets a Tennessee Walking Horse called Star. He spends hours drawing and watching the horse and wishes he could own him.

2) THE COLT FROM HORSE HEAVEN HILLS
(MESSNER [USA] 1956)

SUMMARY: Peter rescues a black horse called Charcoal.

Both are hard to find and may be expensive. Very hard to find outside of the USA.

Golden Lady is the easiest of these to find, although it is not exactly common. The other two are very hard to find, even in the USA, and will probably be expensive: they may be almost impossible to get hold of outside of America.
